The One Common Theme Found in 80% of all Personal Development & Self Help books
I’m a big reader of personal development and self help books. The current book that I’m reading is an excellent book by Julia Cameron entitled the Artist Way, recommended by a friend.
This book is filled with solid practical tips on how to reawaken your inner creative child.
The book gets The Baker stamp of approval.
With that said, I believe that 80% of all personal development/self help books point to one common theme. So, obviously if this large of a percentage is the common theme, it would be really valuable for you to keep this idea in mind right?
Take A Step Back
Before, I go into what this common theme is, let’s first take a step back. Why do a majority of people read a great valuable personal development/self help and then forget about this common overriding theme? Well, the main reason really is because people aren’t passionate enough about their own personal development. They like to read books, get juiced up and leave it at that. There aren’t real tangible results after reading the book because they aren’t really passionate about their personal development. You see to be passionate about your growth, you will notice that in the books that you read there really is no way that you can miss this common overriding central theme found in the books.
The Select Few
I assume that most of you all reading these blogs, are not that group of people that take a really valuable book and forget the common theme. I would say that you are the select few that really care about your personal development growth, so much so that the common theme I’m about to tell you, you are already living. So congratulations on that. Congratulations on being that small percent that is passionate about their personal development and evolution. I respect people that come from a place of truth and honesty with where they are at in life, but truly make honest efforts to consitently try to learn and grow from reading books and applying principles to make their lives better.
The one common Theme Found in 80% of all Personal Development & Self Help Books is:
“Belief in yourself.”
That’s it. Belief in yourself. But, that is such a strong statement and a reoccurring idea we must all continually be reminded of though right? The reason is because we live in a very fast paced society. It is so fast that we forget our “why” we may lose track of our purpose for doing anything. But I’m hear to let you know that you have to continue to believe in yourself, no matter what challenge or obstacle you are currently facing. You see I love people. Some people are supportive with my dreams and some people just plain aren’t supportive of my dreams. I truly appreciate and love all the support I continue to receive, and never take these people for granted.
But you know what keeps me going and pursuing my dreams? It’s the fact that I believe in myself. Simple and plain. There is no other outside force, outside circumstance outside of me that will take that away. I know that if I don’t believe in myself and my life’s purpose, I can easily just slip into a comfort zone, where I don’t grow and evolve as a human being.
That is the reason why 80% of all personal development and self help books stress this in their books in one form or another. They understood that from their perspective, it all begins and ends with you. You can’t blame society, your parents, your friends, how you were raised, or your boss on why you aren’t where you feel you need to be in your development.
It begins and ends with an unwavering belief in yourself.
You create the reality you choose to exist on. You create the change you want to see in the world. You create your wealth and your relationships with others.
You are the end all be all of your own journey. Don’t let people take that from you. Hold strong to your belief and your purpose on this earth. You deserve every ounce of it. When you continue to operate in this manner, you will inspire and empower others to do the same. This is probably the most rewarding part. Believe in yourself, this allows others to believe in themselves.
I also want to mention, I have my very own personal development book for purchase. This book is a good guide to help you find that belief in yourself by moving inward for your own confidence and self image for a beyond successful life.

Reading a self-help book without practicing what it preaches provides entertainment value only.
You have to experiment with the techniques presented. In order to try you must believe in yourself and believe in the methods presented.
I agree with you Baker. To achieve you must believe in yourself. A guru may point the way but personal development is ultimately up to you.
Ryan´s last blog ..Attract Wealth By Becoming A Good Pretender
Hey Ryan,
Yes I think that is the reason why many people get hung up on saying things like “Books can’t help you get what you want” Part of it is true. The indvidual has to take ownership of their own development, and seek and experiement with the tools to see what works for them and what doesn’t. Thanks for your awesome feedback.
everything is just the illusion one way or another

but if something helps it’s good
MG´s last blog ..Working Class Heroes
Hi MG,
Well we live in a world of illusion, but there are tools that really can improve people’s lives such as described in these books. But yeah it depends on what stage of development you are in. Thank you for sharing your wonderful thoughts.
I am a great fan of the “Secret” reason being that things that I think of often, actually happen to me even before I read the book. So when I got my hands on the book it was a dictionary to me explaining how and why most of my wishes came true in the past. Well, not many believe me or even the book. It did made me a happier person now after knowing how the law of attraction works. Thanks for sharing. At least I found one more person who believe in the “Secret”.
Hey Aries,
Nice to meet you. Yes, its always nice to find people that are intune with Concepts described in the Movie/Book The Secret. Thank you for your wonderful feedback, it is much appreciated!
