When Fear Turns Into Faith

We all have fears. All these fears manifest at very different levels for each person. Yet, not until you truly find for yourself what the real root cause of your fear is, the fear will continue to show up in your life.

I have had overcome much fear in my life. Moving out to Arizona on my own from my comfortable living in California with my parent’s home at the age of 25 was a fear I had to face. I had to learn independence and learn to do a lot of things on my own and take responsibility. Prior to the move, I considered myself responsible. But, moving on my own and not knowing anyone was a pretty bold moved that truly tested myself and my level of responsibility.

I turned my fear into faith. Although the path felt uncertain at times, I embraced this uncertainty and backed it up with faith. I kept believing, kept writing and began attracting to me the things, people, and events that aligned with my greater good and proved to be very beneficial to me. I began the practice of daily meditation, to clear out my mind completely. Daily meditation silences my mind and allows me to consciously start my day in peace and clarity, in the present moment.

I also used and continue to use creative visualization successfully, seeing and feeling myself in possession of that which I want to experience in my life. I began to understand the true power of our subconscious mind, and cleaned out a lot of all those past fears, and replaced those fears with thinking positive, expansive thoughts that aligned with my life purpose to serve others for the greater good.

I consciously surrounded myself around positive people, and kept myself occupied by reading books on personal development, spirituality and just kept feeding myself with inspiration and uplifting concepts and ideas that allowed my mind to expand.

It has been close to one year now since I moved out on my own. All I really had that truly gave me a sense of security was my own spirit. Yes. I know that this may sound strange for some people. But truly getting in tune with my very own spirit, by honoring, caring, and nourishing myself has played a big role in me overcoming my own fear of uncertainty.

This came in the form of caring for my body (physically) my thoughts (mentally) and my soul (spiritually). As I moved along in this what some may call more of a spiritual journey, I began to release that fear of uncertainty and what some would perceive as loneliness with certainty and a feeling of wholeness.

Many people don’t know this, but I still get nervous when speaking in public. Every time I am called to do so, I still get that strange feeling in my stomach. But I am working on getting my speaking voice up to par, and I’m actually taking real action to overcoming this minor fear of public speaking and turning it into faith. A good example is a recent podcast live interview I did with Hulbert Lee from the website: frombottomup.com

Many people wonder where I continue to get wisdom to pass along to my readers. This comes from me facing my own fears, and overcoming them by my positive attitude, taking inspired action and living my truth. As long as I’m living on this earth, there will continue to be fears that pop up in my own life. This is part of being human. The problem however with walking in fear, is that I know it will continue to show up in my own life if I don’t address the fear head on and be done with it.

One of the things I am learning is that, fear is not something bad. It can easily be turned into faith. If you so choose. If you allow the fear to be something you look at as a challenge with faith that you can overcome it, you are in a position to grow rapidly as a person, and generally just have a better outlook on life.

When you turn that fear into something that leads you to a better situation in your life, you will see that fear indeed is a good thing. It really allows you to get to the bottom of the situation. Once you find out what you are really fearing, you will find ways to overcome them if you so choose.

We all have freewill. Our growth is delayed when we choose to consciously or even unconsciously not face our fears head on. I personally don’t like that feeling of walking in fear. The feeling of being stuck is not pleasant. I rather move about and gracefully walk this earth with courage allowing good things to continue to flow my way.

I rather acknowledge for myself what the core fear is, and face it with faith and belief that I will conquer it. Depending on the level of fear associated with that particular issue, it can take a short amount of time or longer period of time to get over. But, the fact is that I want to know what it is, so I can deal with it appropriately in the moment.

After all, this is a very personal journey that I myself have to take on. Just like you yourself, have to face. But the best part is that once it’s over, its gone for good. You can then start fresh and brand new. Opportunities for much joy, success, and fulfillment begin to open up for you at lightning speeds. Can you catch up with it?

Imagine yourself walking in total faith and belief in you. Imagine how this would feel being truly in tune with your spirit with joy and excitement. Imagine just being you and attracting to you all that you want in real time. See yourself as the person that walks in faith and lives a life of utter amazement and awe of the experiences you are so fortunate to be experiencing. When you turn your own fear into faith for something better and positive, you will find that your life actually turns out to be a very amazing and delicious experience.

I believe life was not meant to be a scary thing. It is only scary when we choose to ignore what we need to face. Life is really meant to be fun, enjoyable, and exciting! Walking in faith allows you to see life in a manner that is a lot more fun, enjoyable and exciting.

  1. Great post Baker! Sometimes we can’t understand what faith is until we have gone through fear. Just like you probably had no idea what was going to happen after you moved out of your parent’s home, you had to have faith in yourself in order to get through the fear that you might have faced after you made the decision.

I also like how you say that if we allow the fear to be looked at as a challenge, then we will have a better outlook in life. We can either avoid fear or use it to help us grow as people, and having faith that we shall succeed in any circumstance involving fear will help us get through those hardest moments. Thanks for this man!

Very nice post Baker, talking about fear, I think one of the best way to handle fear is to practice. The more we practice, the easier it gets and the faster our fear diminishes. Thanks for sharing Baker

  4. Hi Baker,

I like your story, and it is easy to determine from your blog how much you have had to overcome. It is difficult to turn and really face anxieties with so much involved. Some of our biggest fears can be unfounded and turn out to be our greatest successes. It is different for each and this is the wonder of it. I had a huge fear of horses and little by little I am overcoming this obstacle in my life. Riding a horse was a considerable accomplishment for me but no big deal to someone who has no fear of horses. We must acknowledge our own fears, and I like that you mention discerning the essence of the fear and discovering your fears to secure the faith underneath.

It sounds like you’re still in the game and that’s what helps keep it real. You have empathy, and the best insight is tempered with empathy.

Pro speakers consistently tell me the always get nervous when they speak, but that the important thing is to distinguish between anxiety and stress. Stress is just your body’s response, but anxiety is your cognitive response, and this is where skill and experience come into play.

  6. Hi Baker, I like your name and the story behind it plus your logo. I just had an interview on Hulbert’s blog too – maybe that’s how you found my blog recently. I try to do something scary everyday. We need to get out of our comfort zone daily otherwise we’ll create a prison for ourselves made of our own fears. A bit melodramatic yes but fear does stop you moving forward, trying new things and improving:)

Keep blogging Baker, and good luck with all your plans!

  7. I like this Baker… You have an interesting set of beliefs.

I like the sentence – “Our growth is delayed when we choose to consciously or even unconsciously not face our fears head on.”
