Failure is Success Best Friend
By Wilson Usman
This is a guest post by Wilson Usman a 26 year old dude that decided to quit his 9 to 5 job to become an online entrepreneur come hell or high water. With a lot of failures already, he’s finding success through affiliate marketing.
Why is this? Why is it that we can’t succeed sometimes without actually failing? In my opinion, the two are best friends. If you want to become successful at anything you have to fail more than you succeed. You need to persist when it gets tough and you have to believe no matter what people tell you that what you think is possible.
“Failure is Success’s Best Friend.” There can’t be one without the other, they always somehow, somewhere play a part in somebody’s life. Take a successful person for example; they’ll tell you that they failed somewhere in there lives and if it wasn’t for that they might have not gotten to where they are today.
So why is it that we try to avoid failures instead of embrace them?
Here’s a quote from a famous failure…
“I have missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take the game winning shot, and I missed. I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
– Michael Jordan
The reason I believe that we don’t want to fail at whatever it is that we try to achieve is because we are afraid that others will look at us as FAILURES, because NOT succeeding the first time or second time is bad. I know this from my own experience.
Failing 23 Times – NOT Enough
To give you another example that’s more personal, I’ll explain my story. Before I started blogging I had a job selling vacuums door-to-door for over two years. It wasn’t the coolest job ever, especially around this time of the year, but it paid the bills. Friends, family and sometimes my own conscious told me I would never succeed at this. I’ll tell you it was hard fighting all this negativity. Anyway I ended up taking the job and actually not making any money selling for almost two weeks of failing. I told myself the last day before I made the sale that I would NOT fail anymore and I would NOT come out of that house until I made that sale. I don’t know if it was my talk that I had inside myself that helped me or the 23 people I had NOT sold that DAMN! vacuum to before I made my first sale, but I have a hunch that it was all the failing.
The moral of that mini story is that I failed until I succeeded. After all the negativity I wasn’t going to let the naysayer’s win.
I’ve learned a lot from living and I think its the best way to learn. I do agree though that we can learn from others successes, as well as failures.
A New Challenge – More Failures
Recently I’ve taken a new challenge in my life of becoming a successful online entrepreneur and start earning $10,000 a month from different income streams. And in this challenge I’ve been faced with some difficulties. But I still enjoy going through the process.
The biggest of all problems I had, once again when I began looking into making an income online, was my mindset. I’d heard from several people already that it wasn’t possible and that it was a SCAM!! Yes like everything that I’ve heard before, but I still gave it a shot.
Gladly my mindset, ever since I read “Think and Grow Rich,” has been that everything that the mind of man can CONCEIVE and BELIEVE, it can ACHIEVE. The words of this book are truly powerful and I recommend anyone to get this book.
So a word of advice is to have a positive mindset and actually believing you can make a full time income on the Internet if you want to. You just have to work hard at it and it will pay off.
NOT Taking Action Leads to Wasted Time and Procrastination
The second thing that I challenged when I got started was TAKING ACTION. I spent a year learning and reading and learning and reading some more. That was a big mistake because I could have been making more by now. I think if you’re going to try anything you should correct as you do. You’re going to make mistakes anyway why not make them while you’re learning.
You shouldn’t wait for the perfect time or place because it’s never going to happen, just do it! I know that’s a little corny but its true. I spent so much time looking for information that I already had to be successful but I kept procrastinating. Don’t make that mistake.
Trying to Become a Jack of All Trades
And finally the biggest of all failures was not focusing on one thing. Online you can get distracted with every magic bullet that all the marketers shoot at you. I tried learning PPC, flipping websites, adsense, and freelancing. By trying to do so much I started getting overwhelmed and never really succeeded at anything until I focused one method.
I have to say that my experience with failure has taught me a lot and without it I could have never had success. Again other factors like persistence, definite purpose, and autosuggestion have contributed a lot my success.
If you’ve had to struggle at something but you’ve come up and overcame your failures, share it in the comments. I think that from people’s experiences we can learn a lot.
